There are times when we take things for granted and one of them is self-confidence….
We portray one thing but in reality, our inner self is shivering and saying, “ uhhh ohhhhh…what did I get myself into”. Sounds familiar?? Well, you are not alone; as most of us go through this journey in each phase of our lives….
What is self confidence?
Is it walking into a room with your head held up high or staring at someone and making them feel uncomfortable or just the fact that we love ourselves in our own skin?
Think about it for a moment. How do you define self-confidence?
We need to make sure of one thing; the moment we feel, someone is not confident about oneself, step up and make them feel good and see the good in them. No one is perfect but we all have that good in ourselves, which we carry but are sometimes afraid to let out, for fear of,
What will people say…
If anyone passes a comment, “ what will people say”, for my actions, my usual response to them is, “ Please do not conjure up anything about me, I will give you reasons and materials to talk about me”. That’s my confidence. Even if I falter, I learn from it, stand up and carry on.
Do realize that lack of confidence leads to major consequences and if we do not address them immediately, we are basically letting it control us. If you feel there is something you are good at and confident to succeed, go ahead; do not let anyone undermine you or pressure you to be someone you are not. Do not become a doctor because that’s the thing to do. Be your authentic self and be proud of who you are. You know yourself better than anyone else.
We look at speakers, professors in awe, and students, who walk up and down the aisle, getting their graduation certificates and say to ourselves, “Can I do it?”. Instead of this negative chatter in your head, tell yourself, “I can and will do it”. This is your inner confidence, which you need to awaken.
Being confident within will reach out and inspire others, be it your friends, family, audience at a gathering, your bosses (yes…sometimes bosses need your confidence to go forward too), a stranger at a restaurant or grocery store.
Make a difference for someone…be the difference everyone is looking out for….
Good news!!!!!! Confidence can be learned and worked on and if you follow some simple steps, you are not halfway, but totally there… ☺
First and foremost… LOVE YOURSELF… YOU are special. YOU are here for a reason, so be that reason to grow and help others grow.
Never ever compare yourself to anyone. You are “YOU” and no one can be better than YOU.
Stress???? Well, show it the hand and let stress know that it does not exists… We at CCBC hit it head on and tell stress, “Go on and try it, I’m gonna beat you, for I am the best at what I do”.
Did I forget being positive? Well… there’s positivity everywhere that I see. So no need to brag about that, as we look for the good in everything and situation ☺
So what do you love to do? Have you kept it within and hidden from the world.. or let the world know your passion?
We have one life, so make the most of it. If you like to sing, sing your heart out. Like to dance, dance like no one’s watching. Do something to feel content. Every morning, while driving to school, I have the music blaring and no matter how my previous day had been, I take each new day as a new beginning, and whether its raining, hot and humid or even slippery roads during winter, I look up at the sky and say, “ thank you for an amazing day”. A smile on my face, singing on top of my voice (some of my fellow ambassadors have had to endure it) without a care in the world, I take on the new day with a smile and I am proud of it, for that is my achievement.
We all have someone to look up to, be it religious or not, does not matter. At times when you cannot control circumstances, look up and leave all your worries to God, universe, whatever your belief is, for we cannot have a solution to everything, but we can let go of it for sometime and focus on what is more important at that present moment, which here and now is our studies, our future goals.
Finally, relax my fellow classmates, students, colleagues, professors and everyone else out there. We are the people and we know our strength. We are all here to build each other and ourselves.
So coming back to confidence, how many of you am I going to see in the next few days, walking with your head held up high, not hiding behind the screens of your cell phones – YES.. PUT AWAY the PHONES!!! Smile at a stranger for they are not strangers. Hear the birds and the squirrels, the wind and chatter. Did anyone of you see the massive groundhog the other day, near the student services building-Catonsville Campus? I did, smiled at it and said good morning. Now it’s another thing that the chubby character gave me a quizzical look and started chasing the squirrels, who did not seem too amused.
So.. are you paying attention to what’s going on around you? If you have read this blog, find me and tell me your confidence… I look forward to it as your confidence will definitely boost mine up too…
