I know what you started to think the minute you read the title–I can’t meditate, I don’t have the time, I can’t turn off my thoughts and empty my brain. What if I told you that you don’t need a lot of time and you certainly don’t need to turn off your thoughts to meditate.

My story with meditation started two years ago. I was reading and educating myself about mindfulness and the effect it has on people’s lives. I learned fascinating things that blew my mind. I tapped into something that changed my life and improved it in so many ways. I transformed and became a whole new person. I overcame my test anxiety and perfectionism, which were slowing me down. My concentration and my level of energy were increasing substantially. Things that used to bother me don’t bother me anymore. I could juggle so many things with ease, family, school, work, and even have extra time for self-care. It felt like everything is going smoothly with little to no problems. I started to get answers to all the questions I had.

I know what you’re thinking–how?!

Well, let me tell you how. I started with only fifteen minutes of deep thoughts with myself. I spend this time alone with no distractions and I just observe what’s going on in my brain. By doing that, I was able to catch the negative thoughts, open them, and try to understand where they are coming from. If something bothered me that day I start to imagine this exact thing happening over and over again but I’m not affected by it. I imagine myself calm and not affected by whatever is bothering me that day. By visualizing this image, I’m sending messages to my subconscious mind that I’m really not bothered anymore. When the thing that is bothering me happens in real life, it wouldn’t have an effect on me for real this time. I found a way to connect with my subconscious to change my thoughts and my feelings to more positive ones. That reflected on me and it reflected on the people around me. I started to use this time I spent on meditation to visualize myself accomplishing my goals and dreams.

If you are having an overwhelming day, take 5-10 minutes to yourself to meditate and feel at peace.

I wish that I was taught mindfulness and meditation when I was younger. Why do I have to wait until I’m in my late thirties to learn this valuable information that could change my life? Imagine if meditation is taught at schools. I think everyone will live their lives to the fullest potential. Meditation will then become a habit that people will learn to build at a young age. Meditation will become a way of life.

There are countless benefits to meditation and mindfulness. I continue to learn more about these benefits and improve my life.

Until next time my friends
