Episode 6 – The Connectors: Building a Supportive College Community
In this episode of The Connectors, host Favour Ogedengbe, a New Media Collective student, interviews Dara Butler, a CCBC student reporter, about her article “A Supportive College Team Helps All Students.”
Dara discusses her journey as a writer for The Connection during the summer research experience, reflecting on how her time at both a four-year university and CCBC shaped her perspective on community and support in college. After facing challenges trying to manage life and academics alone, she learned the importance of reaching out to advisors, counselors, professors, and college coaches for help.
Drawing on insights from Bethel University, which emphasizes holistic student support, and research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Dara highlights how using campus resources — and managing sleep and stress — can lead to better academic and emotional well-being. She also shares her collaboration with fellow student Ali Obaid, who contributed to her article’s success.
If you’ve ever wondered how to find balance and build a support network in college, this episode is for you.
