I’M BACK!!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, trying to get back into the swing of things. Summer was way too short, but I’m glad to be back to my usual schedule.
However, that doesn’t mean that these past three weeks have been a walk in the park. Just like a lot of people, I love my sleep.
One thing that’s always been important to me in the beginning of a school semester, is starting off strong. How you start the school year, sets the tone for how you’re going to finish. I’ve had a few fellow students share with me that they’re had a hard time getting back into school mode.
So even though we’re already a few weeks into school, I’m going to share a few tips on how to better enhance the beginning of the semester.
Get Rid Of Your Summer Sleep Schedule
A lot of college students make the mistake of going to sleep at the same times they did during the Summer. It can be hard to fall into that trap in the beginning of the semester, but this is the most crucial time to start getting good amounts of rest. Once you get further into the semester, work starts piling up. Before you know it, you’re up working until 5AM.
I retire my night owl side during the school year, when I can. So for me, I have a time limit on how late I allow myself to stay up when I’m not doing anything productive. Getting decent amounts of rest really effects how my day will be the next day. When I go to bed earlier, I’m in a better mood and more aware in my classes.
Optimize Homework Time
My first semester of school, I would go to my classes and then save all my assignments for that evening when I got home. Of course by then I had been sitting in class all day, and the last thing I wanted to do was work. So sometimes I would end up pushing it off until later in the evening, which resulted in me staying up way later than I needed to.
One trick I learned was to take advantage of all the time I had between classes. Usually, I will have at least an hour wait. So instead of just fooling around, or sitting there, I usually try to knock out a project or two.
Another thing to take advantage of, is open labs in class. It can be so easy to try and leave class early, or waste time till it’s over. But try and use this time effectively. Getting most of your work done while you’re still on campus, will free up your time once you leave. Trust me, you’ll appreciate it later!
Plan, Plan, Plan
USE A CALENDAR/PLANNER!!!
If you haven’t already, take out the schedules for your classes, and put all the deadlines and test dates in your phone. Planning for what’s to come will not only take away some of the stress, but the outcome will be better.
By starting this in the beginning of the semester, you can begin to tackle projects before they creep up on you. Think about it this way, if you do it earlier, you’ll have more time to do other things.
Let me know some tips that you would give fellow CCBC students!
That’s right. Gotta get out of summer mode and into Full time school Mode!!
