This engaging panel brings together scholars and theatre leaders to explore the themes at the heart of the play, including faith, morality, leadership, and the people we choose to follow. Get to know our panelists below and the perspectives they’ll bring to the conversation.

Asim Ali, Senior Lecturer
Director Undergraduate Studies, Dept. of American Studies, University of MD
Asim Ali is Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of American Studies at the University of Maryland. His primary research interest is ethnography, with a focus on how and why people use digital media and popular culture to create communities, and how cultural identity (such as race, gender, sexuality, disability) manifests and transforms on line.

Benjamin Nelson
Assistant Professor of Philosophy, CCBC
Benjamin Nelson earned a PhD in philosophy from the University of Connecticut where he specialized in the history of philosophy with research primarily focused on the skeptical arguments of David Hume. Though his expertise is in the history of philosophy, Professor Nelson has wide-ranging philosophical interests that include science, art, technology, and literature. He joined CCBC in the Fall of 2024

Nick VanHorn
Chair of Performing Arts and Humanities, CCBC
Nick VanHorn is the Chair of Performing Arts and Humanities at CCBC. His academic interests include existentialism, ethics, literary criticism, and environmental philosophy. More recently, he has been focused on the topics of embodiment, the ethics of care, and environmental philosophies. He views teaching philosophy and ethics as a vocation, not just a career. He also believes that philosophy and ethics should be taught at every level of education, and the fact that it is not explains a lot about our current society.

Damon Krometis
Moderator
Associate Professor/Theatre Coordinator, CCBC
Damon Krometis is an Associate Professor of Theatre and the Theatre Coordinator at the Community College of Baltimore County. His research focuses on questions of ethics, social justice, and immersive audience participation. His work has been published in the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Theatre Topics, and HowlRound Theatre Commons. He holds an MFA Directing from Northwestern University, where his thesis focused on combining witness theory with immersive theatre aesthetics. He is currently directing The Christians at CCBC Catonsville, opening April 23.
