I must admit that I am shameless when it comes to never turning down an opportunity to talk about community colleges or about my own college, CCBC. After 52 years of serving as a community college professional, these institutions are a part of me; that magical “open door” mission is in my blood. And why would you ever stop doing something if you love the work that you do…which I do. Heart and soul, I am hooked. I am immensely proud of the work we do and the doors we open for the people we serve. No sector of higher education can do what we do when it comes to being affordable and relevant to the needs and expectations of the 21st century.
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with John Dinkel, former president and publisher of the Baltimore Business Journal, and now WPOC radio host, for a segment of his program CEOs You Should Know. During this iHeart radio series, I had the luxury of talking about my college – its mission, demographics, programs, affordability… and in doing used the opportunity to celebrate all of us in this community college business.
College presidents get paid to brag about their institutions, and I am no exception. I revel in every chance I get to share the wonderful story we have to share. And hey, as I am fond of saying, “It ain’t bragging if it’s true!”
