I am a non-traditional student, returning to school to pursue a career change. To what? . . . That is the question on everyone’s mind. ; )
I have a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, and as an undergraduate (the first time) I loved humanities and was really not attracted to math or science. I wrote my senior thesis on 19th Century Women Travel Writers, and that was my obsession for a few years. But in my late 20′s I decided that I wanted to overcome my phobia of math, and I started taking classes . . .
Now I tutor math in the Success Center in Dundalk, and have found that I love math and science. I really like tutoring math because I know exactly what it’s like to struggle with numbers. I also know that it’s totally possible to enjoy math, even if it seems intimidating at first.
Professionally, I’ve done a lot of different things. I’m a dog trainer. I was a consultant to several large not-for-profit organizations, I was a party planner (weddings, ugh!), I worked as a waitress and bartender, which I liked a lot (I love to talk!) and I drove a yellow cab in New York City for a few months. That was fun, too.
Basically, I love to learn new things, meet new people and collect interesting stories. I hate repetition. Boredom is death.
I look forward to sharing my experiences, and getting to know you!
