Bobby’s Burger Palace at the new Maryland Live! casino!

The Maryland Live! casino in Arundel Mills has just been opened to the public. Amongst all of the sounds and lights of the slot machines in the casino is Food Network star, Bobby Flay’s new restaurant, Bobby’s Burger Palace. I couldn’t wait to try Iron Chef Bobby Flay’s burger, and I was thrilled when I was informed that I would actually be meeting with the accomplished chef.

Bobby’s Burger Palace is much like a diner with color tones of mint green, orange, and brown. The colors are accented well with pictures of fresh fruits and veggies hanging on the wall. There is an amazing light fixture that cruises in an S-curve above the unique individual seating area and continues to the outside seating deck. There are huge family style tables in the middle of the restaurant, and a hard liquor bar near the door. The casino floor is still visible from the seating areas, but the casino does not cause major distraction from this delicious burger palace.

Each seating area is complimented with a box of napkins, and a wheel of creative sauces including, chipolte ketchup, yellow mustard, burger sauce, jalapeño hot sauce, and ketchup. Each of these sauces packs a full flavorful punch to any burger. My favorite of the unique sauces was the jalapeño hot sauce because it was not extremely hot and had a fresh flavor. Bobby Flay mentioned that he is a fan of different sauces, even the fries come out with their own ‘fry sauce.’

The menu is relatively simple yet offers a twist on your usual variety of burgers, fries, and milkshakes. BBP offers salads, and three side options of fries, sweet potato fries, and beer battered onion rings. Bobby’s Burger Palace also has 10 different topped burgers with options of angus beef, ground turkey, or chicken breast as your burger.  Flay has come up with his signature “crunchified” burger. This burger is topped with crunchy potato chips. You are able to ‘crunchify’ any of the burgers on the menu. The chips on the burger is something I am sure many of us has done before, so the fact that I am seeing it be a part of a menu is surprising and extremely delicious!

Bobby said that “It’s a perfect combination. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes remind [him] of childhood.” I think many people can attest to a similar feeling of the comfort foods.

I ordered the famous crunch burger a side of fries and a pistachio milkshake. My burger was cooked perfectly, which I ordered at medium rare, covered in american cheese and potato chips. The fries came with their own special dipping sauce. I have a huge sweet tooth, and really like the idea of a pistachio milkshake, so I had to get one! The milkshake was rich and thick and came with a spoon and wide straw. It was one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had!
Bobby Flay wants to “create food that people will love and want to come back for,” and I am already wanting to go order for take-out!

The prices of these gourmet burgers developed by Bobby Flay himself are not expensive. The average price for a full meal is about $15. This includes a burger, fries, and a milkshake. The restaurant also has an option for takeout. Not a bad deal for these tasty treats!

If any of you visit Bobby’s Burger Palace, comment and let me know about your experience!

Leaving CCBC :(

It is the last week before finals…

I never thought that the end of the semester would have come so soon! I feel like it has just gone by so fast!

This is actually my last semester at CCBC- and I can comfortably say that Im ready to leave this campus. It has become like my security blanket but I am ready to move on. (not to say i wont be back to visit) :) I have actually been attending CCBC Catonsville on and off for almost 6 years. I have learned so many things about being in college while studying here at CCBC. I have a feeling of joy when i walk down these hallways because i can remember when i first started attending and how nervous i was, how much i hated parking and how lost i got. Now that this semester is wrapping up it is actually kind of sad that i wont be attending CCBC anymore. It almost makes me think about attending a continuing ed class here just so i can come back! The people are so nice and the campus has changed a decent amount since i started. Learning at CCBC was such a wonderful experience for me.

Although i am going to miss attending CCBC, I am graduating, and that in itself is a huge accomplishment. I will soon open a new chapter of my college career and move on to a higher class and must continue to excell at University of Baltimore where I will be continuing to earn my bachelors degree in Communications.

It all seems to happen so fast!!!!!

Preparing for Finals

How are you preparing for finals???

Are you studying everyday?

Are you going to procrastinate and cram the night before??

Please do not procrastinate, you would only be hurting yourself.

Take in consideration what you need to know for your final. Weather it is cumulative or not, your teacher should have told you generally what to expect on your final exams. This should make it even easier for you to study. Now you know what material you need to study the most.

Try a few things to help you study key points:

Make flashcards

Re-read and rewrite your notes. (Even if you take notes electronically, it might help to pull out the good ol’ pen and paper)

Look over slides or materials/classwork the teacher has given to you

Make rhymes or acronyms for important points/strategies/equations

Write down different things you need to know on a note card and carry it with you so if you have a free moment you can read over it and study when you have a few minutes on the go.

Study with a classmate or friend who can quiz you with different questions.

Turn off all of the media and get focused. Go somewhere where there are virtually no distractions. (unless you are the type that likes distractions to keep you focused…yes, they are really out there)

Hopefully these things will help you prepare for your final exams. Most importantly, don’t stress. If you prepare and do your absolute best, you are sure to do well. And as my grandmother used to tell me: “If you know you tried your hardest and you got a “C” then you still tried your hardest.”

Prepare and Study!!!! Good Luck everyone!!!

Almost Done!

We are slowly but surely winding down the semester. We only have about two weeks left and then most of us will be enjoying our summer break.

As the end of the semester approaches, course work seems to be most intense. I am almost drowning in final projects, tests and studying for finals. This is the time when students are wondering what they need to score on those last few assignments to get the passing grade.

Overall I think I have had a great semester and I am looking forward to June 3! Hope to see some of you there!

Study!!! Good Luck on Finals~!

Media…The Influence

Happy Friday Everyone!!

I wanted to talk to everyone today about something I have actually been thinking about and have discussed  in some of my classes.

The Media! It can be so brainwashing. Think of a world where there would be no television, no ads, and nothing subliminally pressuring you to do or buy anything. There are ads everywhere! On your apps in your phone, on your computer, outside, on TV.. etc the list goes on and on…

I am actually studying to be in advertisement and marketing, but I wanted you all to think a little bit here with me.

If any of you can refer with me to Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” many people relate their reality to what is shown on television. They see stars on TV and want to look like them or buy what they have. Our vision of beauty is basically driven off of what society has told us to believe is beautiful. Magazines and commercials photoshop and recreate images that make us want to have or be like what they are advertising. Check out The Evolution Of Beauty. We must remember that it is just that, an illusion. An illusion to make us want to have the life that the company is selling. It is a consumer’s market. And boy do some of these ad’s do a good job.

Look around you, no one is perfect, no one actually lives the lives that are shown on TV. These “reality shows” I’m sorry to tell you but they are *spoiler alert* staged. And if the show is not 100% staged, you have to remember that you are not seeing everything. These producers gather loads of footage and piece them together, include voice overs and “confessionals” to create a story usually all having an introduction, a conflict, and a resolution. But this is what we crave and this is what we love, so there is no harm in entertainment, as long as you take it as that, and at only its face value.

I am not saying that i have not fallen victim to these ads, because believe me, i have, and i still sometimes do but I want all of you to think outside the box, go outside of the cave, and use your mind to think about the world around you. Spend more time outside and socializing. Like I’m sure most of you have heard before, ”Don’t believe everything you see on television.”

Setting Goals

Today I wanted to talk to you about setting goals. Setting goals is super important. Goals keep you motivated and always reaching. Once you reach a goal, there is a certain joy that comes along with the achievement. Your individual goal can be big or small, short or long-term. I like to create different small goals for each day or sometimes for the enitre week. For example, I will make a goal to do all of my work for school ahead of schedule. Or if it is a big project, I will set goal dates where I wish to have a certain amount of work finished by a certain day, and this helps me finish my work on time and feel less pressure.  I like to make goals out of anything: Goal: To recycle more often, Goal: To drink water all day, Goal: To go to the gym 3 days a week. Goal: To graduate in Spring 2012 Goal: To save a certain amout of money.

Creating goals gives us something to reach for and to accomplish. With out something to keep us going we will lose out on the awarding feeling of accomplishing things and thus lose this motivation.

It helps to write down your goals be it short or long term. This can be almost like a to-do list. Check them off as you accomplish them and dont be afraid to treat yourself when you accomplish a  goal that you have been working toward.

Reach for the sky in anything that you do!

Don’t get fustrated if you dont accomplish your goal, keep working towards it or restablish your goal and make it more attainable, and work from that point. You can have as many goals as you want, just do not give up! Motivation and ambition will grow from creating and making goals, two very appealing traits!

Good Luck!

Finance Expo @ CCBC

CCBC always has some cool things going on campus. For example, April is known to be Personal Finance month (something I didn’t know until I saw a commercial on TV about it) and CCBC is having a personal finance expo next Saturday, April 21, 2012. Im really interested in going because as a college student, sometimes finances can be hard to manage. Having money is one thing, but learning to save it or spend it wisely is another. I know the event is free (see they are already helping with the finances :) ) so why not check it out and see what I can learn. This too is a family event, so if any of you have younger brothers or sisters or even children of your own, I believe they will have games and things for the young ones so they can start learning about money also. I cant wait to go. Im all about saving money! Ill post more info about it soon if any of you readers are interested maybe ill see you there :)

We have all had a nice break from the stresses of school, but now we are back into the swing of things and over the largest potion of the semester. The next few weeks of class will fly by! <3

Top 5 Tips For Becoming A Better Student

It is officially spring. Such a wonderful time of year. The air is fresh with smells of the blooming flowers and the sights of the new greens on the trees. I wanted to remind all of you that everyday is a new day and that we should follow mother nature’s spring example. Although there may be time where we feel as if we fail or fall, whether it be in a class at school or within our personal lives, we always have a chance for a new beginning.

So with that said, I would like to share with you my top 5 tips for becoming a better student:

Spring Fever

The weather is getting warmer and the days increasingly longer. Today is Monday, and while I normally have a case of the Monday’s, who could be down on a beautiful day like today? Its time for some spring cleaning and reevaluating. Time to pack up all of the winter clothes and pull out all of the spring and summer wear, I don’t see any signs of winter weather coming back soon. It’s a case of Spring Fever.

With spring break approaching, I am wondering what many of you have planned to enjoy it. I am increasingly anxious to have my toes in the sand and to hear the ocean while soaking in the sun. Lucky for us baltimorians, Ocean City is only about three hours away.

While counting down the days until spring break, I am sure the work in our classes may be getting more intense as the semester rolls along, but i like to think that after spring break its all down hill from there. To me, spring break is the peak of the semester and while we may have assignments due right after spring break I think the work load will soon become lighter as the final weeks of the semester approach. Hang in there! Enjoy this weather and get ready for a break, but until then, put in as much effort as you can because before you know it, this semester will be over.

Random Fact: Each of the suits on a deck of cards represents the four major pillars of the economy in the middle ages: heart represented the Church, spades represented the military, clubs represented agriculture, and diamonds represented the merchant class.

So it’s midterm week. I didn’t even know! This semester seems like it is flying by so fast! It seems like I have only had about two tests all semester in just about all of my classes, so maybe that is why it is so hard to believe that it is already time for mid terms.

I feel like the changing weather also distorts my timeline. One day its freezing outside and the next it is clear and sunny. Well now since the time change we will have more hours of daylight which means happier people. I know I enjoy when the sun is still out at 6-7:00. Who doesn’t want longer days? It feels like you can get more accomplished. And with the longer days comes the satisfaction of the coming warmer weather.

I think doing homework and studying outside during the spring months is so refreshing and gives a different perspective on whatever you may be working on. The fresh air, the sounds of nature, and the cool breeze helps calm the nerves and put the focus in full gear. I think reading my materials outside is probably the most satisfying.

I wish everyone the best of luck through midterm week! Study Study Study! We are almost to spring break, then it’s a breeze from there.
