He has been singing all his life in school and church choirs and he wishes to pursue a career in Musical Theatre.

SHAZI ATAM is a 22 year old Business Administration major born in Baltimore, Maryland. Shazi has had a passion for entertainment since a young age being involved in her elementary school step team and dance group. She had a poem published in a book in the third grade, and wrote a book of her own “The Ganja Diaries” in her junior year of high school. She has branched out into comedy making skits on her Instagram and Facebook page, and is also looking forward to starting stand up. She is highly interested in everything from directing, to writing, acting, producing and writing music, singing, dancing, improv, and comedy. This is her first official theater production and she is on the RISE!

AMANDA HALCOTT is thrilled to be in her second show at CCBC! Last semester she acted in Everyman and she is also a member of the Baltimore Murder Mystery Company. She wants to thank Felix for being an awesome Stage Manager and her cast mates for being so welcoming and friendly.

Aside from his class activities and showcases, this will be his stage acting debut. He currently majors in Political Science and plans to minor in Music. However, he has expressed an interest in changing his major to Theater, with a focus in Directing.

In his free time, he plays video games, spends time with family, works at Target and is the President of the Students for Social Justice Club.

AUVION ARRINGTON is a 19 year old student who goes to CCBC in Essex. Although Auvion is currently pursuing a major in Business Administration, she also enjoys the arts.

The Uprising Plays

In April of 2015, Glass Mind Theatre approached six local playwrights to participate in their annual “Brainstorm” production, which showcased new work by Baltimore playwrights, based on that year’s theme. During the Spring of 2015, the murder of Freddie Gray and subsequent protests and media coverage thrust Baltimore into the national spotlight and further urged an examination of police brutality in America. Four of the six plays that CCBC’s Theatre Program presents in this current production began with these events, which served as a catalyst for the 2015 Brainstorm. For the 2017/2018 Performing Arts Season, CCBC chose “Baltimore Stories” as a common theme, and thus The Uprising Plays were formed. These five short plays went through a script development process with the Script Analysis students on the Catonsville Campus, followed by a rehearsal process on the Essex Campus, led by guest director Trustina Sabah, and culminating in this production you are about to experience. We invite the audience to not only reflect on Baltimore during the Spring of 2015, but to reflect on today. What, if anything has changed? What remains the same?
