The Dancers

IZAAK COLLINS
is a local professional performing artist. With a passion for theater and youth, he has performed in and taught in a variety of community settings, and is currently a Teaching Artist for The Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore’s Children’s Theater Production Company. He is in his 6th season performing with Urban Pirates, and most recently acted in Fell’s Point Corner Theater’s production of Title of Show.
AVA CORRELLI
began dancing five years ago with a local choreographer and starting dancing with Upper Falls Dance Academy last year. Ava also performs in musicals with Children’s Playhouse of Maryland and has been performing with them for six years. Ava is a homeschooled sophomore in high school who is doing the parallel enrollment program through CCBC which allows her to take classes and participate in the dance company. This is Ava’s first year at CCBC and she has very much enjoyed being a part of the Dance Company.
LEANNE GIBSON 
is a CCBC alum that graduated with her AFA degree in Dance in 2014. Here she earned the award for Outstanding Achievement in a Dance Company from 2012-2013. After transferring to UMBC, she earned her BA in Dance in 2017. Gibson has attended multiple ACDA Conferences and has worked with choreographers such as Melanie George, Nicole Martinell, and Alvin Mayes.  Leanne is currently performing with the Trajectory Dance Project and teaching across Maryland.
MELISSA LLOYD
has been enrolled in dance and gymnastics classes since she was 3 years old. In 2008, she came to CCBC and got more serious about her dance studies and declared herself a Dance Major. The core of her dance training is with the CCBC Dance program under Tommy Parlon and Melinda Blomquist. Over the past 10 years, she has studied various styles of dance at the Performing Arts Center of San Diego, attended El Camino College in Torrance, CA studying under Liz Hoefner-Adamis and the El Camino Dance Company, and studied at The Gibney Dance Center for Performing Arts in New York, NY with John Zullo and Raw Movement Dance. She currently dances with Alice Howes and the Trajectory Dance Project. She plans on attending UMBC, to receive her BFA in Dance.
ANASTASIA MCKENZIE
was born in Kirov, Russia, and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Anastasia graduated in 2015 from CCBC where she was a dance major. She recently graduated with her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography at Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Anastasia was a part of the pre-professional Coker Repertory Dance Company at Coker College. In 2012, Anastasia was nominated to travel to London, England to represent Maryland in dance. During the summer of 2016 she was 1 of 25 lucky dancer chosen to travel to Italy for a two week summer dance intensive. Anastasia plans to go back to school to earn another degree while continuing performing and creating choreography.
MUKHTARAM MILES
was introduced to the classic dance world in her sophomore year of high school. Since then, she has danced ballet, contemporary and modern dance in Laurel High School and Towson University. She also has a little experience dancing African and belly dances. This is her first semester in CCBC Dance Company after a two year break from dance.
CHARLIE SACCO
began his dance training with Kingsville Rec. He would go on to dance with Upper Falls Dance Academy and graduate from Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts’ dance magnet. While in high school, Charles worked under the direction of Claire Sweet and Laura Brown and performed in masterworks by Adrienne Clancy, Torens Johnson, and Vincent Thomas. In addition, Charles participated in a week long dance exchange between the Baltimore County Dance Ensemble and the dancers of Windsor High School Sixth Form. Charlie was part of Peter Pucci’s cast of over 50 in his premiere work Migration. This is Charlie’s third semester with the company and he plans on transferring to a four year school after completing credits at CCBC.
ANITA SAMEK
is a current student at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, pursuing her A.F.A in Dance. Anita has studied primarily ballet, tap, jazz and modern at several dance programs/studios including Praise Ballet Academy, Perry Hall Dance, and A Step Ahead Dance Center. She began as a teacher’s assistant for Perry Hall Dance and was promoted the following year to an instructor. Anita has taught classes with Belair Dance Academy, Dance Baltimore, and Dance & BMore, and she continues to teach classes at A Step Ahead Dance Center, Perry Hall Dance, Dance Conservatory of Maryland, and Forest Hill Dance. Anita has performed in works set by Charm City Ballet and Peter Pucci, and was featured in a tap dance music video for Hillary Marie, director of FutureStep Tap Company in New Jersey–where she auditioned, and was offered a position with the company. She was also offered a position with District Tap, led by Baakari Wilder and Lisa Swenton-Eppard, whom she will be performing with in the fall. In May 2017, Anita was selected for the Outstanding Achievement in Dance Company Award. After this semester, Anita hopes to transfer to UMBC to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in dance and teacher certification.

MELINDA BLOMQUIST
(Artistic Director)
received a Master of Fine Arts in Dance Choreography and Performance from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee; and a Master of Arts in Dance Pedagogy from Brigham Young University.   Melinda has presented her choreographic work in numerous venues nationally and internationally  including:  the South Central and Mid-Atlantic American College Dance Festivals; the Southern District AAHPERD conferences; Northwest Vista College; the National Dance Association Pedagogy Conferences; the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee; and at the Attakkalari Festival in Bangalore India.  She has also performed her own work and the work of other artists in various venues.  Melinda is currently working with Trajectory Dance Project.
Melinda is an Associate Professor of Dance at the Community College of Baltimore County and is the Artistic Director of the CCBC Dance Company.  Melinda is involved in community outreach, focusing on promoting the importance of dance as art form in public education.  Previously Melinda was a member of the dance faculty at the University of Texas Pan American where she was the Co-Artistic Director of the Dance Ensemble.  Melinda has also worked with the Theatre and Music departments as a choreographer for Musical Theatre productions both at the University of Texas Pan American and at the Community College of Baltimore County.
ALICE HOWES
(Choreographer)
is a dance artist and educator who is director of Trajectory Dance Project, a Baltimore-based modern dance ensemble. She has held full-time faculty positions at universities including Coppin State University, UNC Charlotte, and Lamar University.  In addition, she served from 1995 to 2004 as artistic director and resident choreographer of Washington, D.C.’s Sister’s Trousers Dance Company, a modern dance ensemble based in the D.C. area. Sarah Kaufman of The Washington Post described Howes’ performance as “riveting, thrilling and deeply mysterious”.  Howes’ choreography has appeared in selective showcases at venues such as D.C.’s Dance Place, The Booth Theater in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater and Millennium Stage. She holds an MA in dance from American University and an MFA in dance from Sam Houston State University. Howes also has earned a Certificate of Movement Analysis (CMA) from the Laban Institute of Movement Studies in New York City.
ADRIENNE KRAUS LATANISHEN
(Choreographer)
is a proud Baltimorean who knew she wanted to be a dancer and choreographer eversince she was a little girl.  She began her training at The Community College of Baltimore County, then, transferred to The University of Maryland, College Park where she graduated with honors with her B.A. in Dance.  Adrienne has taught at several studios and recreation programs alike including MgM Dance Studio, where she currently teaches various styles.  In addition to dancing, choreographing, and teaching for The Collective, AKL also dances for Andary Dance, Nathan Andary’s professional company, and withhart.dance.projects, of which she is also founding member and assistant director.  Her choreography has been commissioned at local high schools, colleges, and organizations.  Adrienne made her New York City debut performing in the Perceptions Contemporary Dance Festival, WAXworks at Triskelion Arts, Green Space, Movement Research, and the world famous Judson Church.  She made her Washington D.C. debut performing at The Dance Exchange, Joe’s Movement Emporium, and Dance Place.  However, her greatest achievement is starting her own brand new company named AKL Dance Theatre.  Much love to The Collective who shares their passion, collaborates their creativity, and keeps dance alive in Baltimore!
TOMMY PARLON
(Dance Coordinator)
a native of Washington, D.C., received his M.F.A. in Dance (Choreography and Technology) from Arizona State University and his B.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. From 1998-2002 he was an Assistant Professor of Dance at Kent State University. While in New York City he danced with J. Fregalette Janson Dance, Centaur Dance Theatre, Beyondance Inc! and the Paris based multi-media performance art company FIASCO. Mr. Parlon has danced in pieces by Doug Varone, Stephen Petronio, Alvin Mayes, Laura Dean and Elizabeth Streb. In 1996-1998 he collaborated on Falling to Earth, an interactive multi-media performance piece created with the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University. His choreography has been commissioned by Incidents Physical Theater of New York City, NEW ARTiculations in Tucson, Arizona, Lansing Chamber Dance in Michigan, and numerous colleges throughout the United States. He was awarded an Individual Artist Award in Solo Dance Performance from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2004 and an Artist Award in Choreography in 2007. Mr. Parlon is currently the Artistic Director of Tommy Parlon Dance Projects in Washington, D.C., the Artistic Associate of Ground Zero Dance in Richmond and the Dance Coordinator at CCBC.
KRISTI SCHAFFNER
(Associate Director)
attended the University of Oklahoma as a teaching fellow where she received her MFA in modern dance (2011). She also has BFA in dance education from Kent State University (2004).  Through a graduate student grant, she studied Laban Movement Analysis at the Laban Institute in NYC. Ms. Schaffner has performed with Jeslyn Dance Gallery, Clawson Dances, Junction Dance Theatre, and Tommy Parlon Dance Projects among others, and is a current dancer and Director of Education and Outreach for Dragonfly Dance Experiment. Her choreography has been presented across the country including Pittsburgh, Oklahoma City, Washington D.C., Annapolis, Baltimore, Salt Lake City and at the Howard County Dance Festival. A passion for education has inspired her to create and implement dance curricula for both preschools and charter school students diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. Ms. Schaffner is a current adjunct faculty member in the dance divisions of Anne Arundel Community College and the Community College of Baltimore County and is a frequent guest instructor and performer in schools and community events.
PETER PUCCI (Guest Choreographer) 

Peter Pucci was born and raised in Baltimore. He graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with a BFA. For nine years he was a member of Pilobolus Dance Theatre, where he served as principal dancer, co-choreographer, and rehearsal director. While with Pilobolus, Peter toured and taught worldwide, made several film and television appearances, performed on Broadway, collaborated on many Pilobolus pieces, and presented his own works on Pilobolus programs.

Pucci has worked for the last 20 years as Choreographer/Movement Director with extensive credits in theater, ballet, modern dance, opera, fashion, and dance education. Recent theatrical productions include: Master Harold and the Boys directed by Athol Fugard at the Signature Theatre; Incognito, directed by Doug Hughes Off Broadway at the Manhattan Theater Club; Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Gregory Boyd at The Alley Theater in Houston; Desire, directed by Michael Wilson Off Broadway at 59E59; One Man, Two Guvnors, directed by Gregory Boyd at The Alley Theater and Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Ethan McSweeney at The Shakespeare Company in Washington, DC.

Dance company commissions include the world premiere of Dream On By with music by Paul Simon for the State Street Ballet in California, PUCCI:SPORT for the New Mexico Ballet, and new ballets for Dance Theater of Harlem and the Joffrey Ballet Ensemble in New York City. Pucci is currently working on a new NEA funded production, Baltimore Stories, with the Community College of Baltimore County, where he will create a new group work for 60 local dancers.

Pucci has taught extensively for all levels of dancers; high school to college to professionals, including teaching at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City and has been a guest artist at Juilliard School of Drama in NYC. Pucci is also a Guest Moderator and Programmer for the Dance On Film Series at Jacob Burns Film Center

Pucci has also directed and choreographed for his own company, Peter Pucci Plus Dancers, which has performed in New York City, including six appearances at The Joyce Theater, and has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. The company has twice been presented on public television by KRMA-TV Denver, One Night Only and Peter Pucci: Curtain Time. The second program has been rebroadcast nationwide on PBS. PP+ had its Broadway premiere at The New Victory Theater. In addition to creating numerous ballets in the US Pucci has choreographed over 50 repertory works for PP+.

One of Pucci’s greatest strengths as a choreographer is his ability to spark an interest in dance among diverse audiences. His work is imbued with a sense of athleticism and humor that, combined with a keen and thoughtful vision and a true integration of music and dance, makes his work appeal to a wide range of ages and backgrounds – both for dance novices and dance aficionados.

Pucci was honored as the first recipient of the Samuel H. Scripps Humphrey/Weidman/Limon Fellowship, a choreographic commission awarded by the American Dance Festival. Pucci is also the winner of an Absolute Joffrey Award for Choreography and two Choo-San Goh Awards for Choreography. Pucci was a Drama Desk Award Nominee for Outstanding Choreography and a Lucille Lortel Awardee for Outstanding Choreographer for his work on Queens Boulevard. Pucci has received the Westchester Artist of the Year Award from ArtsWestchester. Pucci also received a Drama Desk Award for his work on The Orphans’ Home Cycle.
