The Plot
“Let lips do what hands do.” — Romeo and Juliet
Love and rivalry on the streets of Verona come to life in this fresh, boundary-pushing production of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy. When young Romeo, scion of the Montague house, falls for Juliet, daughter of his parents’ rivals the Capulets, romantic possibility sows the seeds of violence.
In this fresh production helmed by innovative deaf director Joey Caverly, a mixed ensemble of deaf and hearing actors bring the tale of star-crossed lovers to the stage in a fully accessible performance in both spoken English and American Sign Language. Co-produced with the CCBC Interpreter Preparation Program.
The Center for the Arts Theatre at CCBC Catonsville is wheelchair accessible and offers listening assistance devices for the hearing impaired. Patrons requiring accommodation – including special seating or audio description for the visually impaired – should make arrangements through the Box Office at the time of ticket purchase.
