The Plot

“Love’s fire heats water, water cools not love.” — Sonnet 154

Shakespeare’s sonnets of romantic and sexual love are timeless, for they are not bound to any particular setting or to either sex. In this collection of contemporary one-act plays, the greatest love poetry in the English language provides the springboard for new works about the triumphs and tragedies of the heart. Eric Bogosian’s sharp wit, paired with Tony Kushner’s surprising worldview, will take the stage alongside new pieces by faculty members Julie Lewis and Peter Carver, as well as CCBC alumnus Aris Hines.

The Studio Theatre in the Arts & Humanities Hall at CCBC Essex is an intimate, limited-seating space.Patrons requiring accommodations – including sign language interpretation and wheelchair accessibility – should make arrangements through the Box Office at the time of ticket purchase. Patrons with mobility needs may use handicapped parking at the south side of the building facing Franklin Square Hospital, and access an elevator to the top floor. Limited handicapped parking is also available along College Drive in the same area.
