General Audition Information

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre is committed to growing our diversity and inclusion at all levels: on our stage, in our audience, on our staff, and within our leadership. We seek to be inclusive not only in our casting but also in the works we choose to present. We aim to keep performers from historically underrepresented backgrounds visible and valued in the casting process. As such, we encourage performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and ages, to attend auditions.

Sunday, February 22, 2026 | 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Rehearsals will generally be held 2–3 times per week. Conflicts will be taken into consideration when scheduling specific days/times for rehearsals.

There will be at least one weekend rehearsal each week until tech week.

Actors will not be cast who have conflicts during tech week. We ask that actors bring a list of ALL conflicts to the auditions from now until the closing of the show.

 Music Selection – Please choose 16 -20 bars of a Pop/Rock selection with strong 1980s pop influence.
You may be asked to learn some music and/or harmonies – either during auditions or callbacks.
Bring music for the pianist that is in the correct key – do not sing acapella or with a karaoke recording.

Monologues/Readings –  Actors will be asked to read selections from the show.
God of Carnage ONLY – Please prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic or comic monologue.

Headshot and Resume – These are not required, but are highly recommended.

Auditions will be scheduled in 60-minute blocks.
Everyone auditioning is expected to stay for the entire 60 minutes.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

 


XANADU

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from
the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California. in 1980 on a quest to inspire a
struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER
DISCO! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her
jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

Kira (Clio)
The youngest of Zeus’s daughters and the muses. Falls in love with Sonny. Pretty. Adventurous.
Honest and determined. Muse of history and the leader of the muses.

Sonny Malone
A self-critical and depressed, mortal, chalk artist who falls in love with Kira. Handsome, but not
particularly smart. He embodies 1980s pop culture and is very much a California dreamer.

Danny Maguire (Zeus)
The hard-nosed “all work and no play” businessman who owns the theater he once built for his love, Kira. Used to be a budding artist like Sonny, but has since let money and greed consume him.

Calliope (Aphrodite)
Kira’s older sister and fellow muse. She is jealous of Kira and as Melpomene’s sidekick, plots with her for Kira’s downfall. The Muse of epics.

Melpomene (Medusa)
Kira’s oldest sister. Mother of the Sirens. She is jealous that Kira is the leader of the muses rather than herself, and therefore creates the plot for her downfall. Muse of tragedy.

Thalia
One of Kira’s older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of comedy.
Gender: Male
Vocal range top: C6, Vocal range bottom: C4

Euterpe
One of Kira’s older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of music.
Gender: Female, Vocal range top: A5, Vocal range bottom: G3

Erato
One of Kira’s older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of lyrics and erotica. As Eros, she is responsible for shooting Kira with the arrow of love brought on by Melpomene and Calliope’s spell.

Terpsicore
One of Kira’s older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of dance. As Hermes, the messenger of the gods, he is deeply masculine in voice but sassy and flippant in attitude.

Xanadu ensemble auditions 16- 32 bars of an uptempo 70s/80s pop or disco or a song in the style of the show with sheet music. All ensemble members must move and roller skate well. While skating skills are usually coached during rehearsals, performers should be prepared for energetic movement.

Key Requirements & Preparation
● Vocal: Prepare a 16- 32-bar cut or a 60-second song in the style of the show (disco/80s pop). Avoid a cappella; bring clearly marked sheet music for the
accompanist.
● Dance/Movement: A mandatory, high-energy dance call is standard. Wear form-fitting, comfortable clothing and appropriate dance footwear.
● Acting: Be prepared to show comedic timing or a “bold choice” in the style of the show

Up-beat musical comedy with an edge. Celebrating youth. We like spending time with these people. Story told with movement, particularly the kids

THE KIDS: 

Must read high school age, 14-19; real age unimportant. High energy, dancers/singers. Full of life; embracing the freedom and joys of their time. Excellent actors with a comic bent.

REN: Charismatic tenor, strong dancer. Emotional, quirky, sarcastic. Embracing life with a sense of fun.

ARIEL: strong belt and dancer, trying to cope with being a preacher’s daughter. Rebellious.

 

WILLARD HEWITT: Rens’ country friend. Warm heart and smile. Country singer/dancer. Bumpkin but not a fool. Older teenager.

RUSTY: Strong belt/dancer. Scatterbrained, funny, gossipy. Full of fun.

CHUCK CRANSTON: Ariel’s bad boy Boyfriend.

WENDY JO and URLEEN: Ariel’s friends. Strong singer/dancers with quirky personalities.

JETER, BICKLE, GARVIN: Ren’s friends

LYLE, TRAVIS: Chuck’s friends.

PLUS: dancers who sing, singers who dance.

THE ADULTS:  40 and up.

REV. SHAW MOORE: Ariel’s Dad, Preacher, and the community’s moral center. Stern and Strick,  Looking to work around “religious” cliche. Dealing with death of his son. Excellent singer,

clever; knows he’s the smartest man in the room and can bide his time to display it; covers it with innocence, affection, and naïveté.

Myra Bruh
Supporting, Female, age 40-60
Sophisticated, upper-class, but embraces the country life; innocent, sweet, caring, emotional, nervous, even skittish, supportive of Sydney’s career and moods but grows some backbone when he crosses the line.

Helga ten Dorp
Supporting, Female, age 30-99
Psychic, wild, individual, Gypsy-like; in and out of her world and this world; knows she’s a celebrity and buys into the show of her gift; has a Dutch accent; is disarming and brave when faced with pain and violence.
