INTERPRETER PREPARATION

Kathrine Arnold (Interpreter Preparation Certificate) I am so proud to be the first to graduate from CCBC from Canada. After graduating, I began working at our provincial school, Earnest C. Drury School for the Deaf. I am also interpreting at my home church. In the future I hope to also begin to interpret out in the community. Again, thank you to the college and to the amazing professors that made me feel so welcome.

Raquel Feliciano (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) I am currently a staff interpreter for Deaf professionals and clients at a NJ-based supportive employment agency that serves individuals with disabilities. My goal is to continue to strengthen my Spanish skills so I can become a skilled trilingual interpreter, with a focus on the medical and mental health fields. I plan to stay involved in and support the Spanish/Deaf communities while continuing to grow through workshops and training opportunities. These experiences not only help me become a better interpreter but also allow me to earn CEUs as I pursue the alternative path to RID certification. I’m excited for the journey ahead and remain committed to both my professional development and to serving the communities I care deeply about.

Raeanne Fuchs (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) I can hardly believe that this chapter is coming to a close—it’s been a long journey, and one filled with growth. My time at CCBC has been incredibly formative, and I will truly miss being part of this community. Currently, I’m contracted with 5 agencies, and I serve as the lead interpreter at an elementary school in Montgomery County. I also work part-time with ZP VRS. I’m genuinely loving every moment in this field and feel grateful to be where I am. I passed my EIPA written exam last summer, and I’m currently (and a bit impatiently) awaiting the results of my CASLI written exam. I’m especially grateful to PeV for believing in me from the very beginning—long before I believed in myself—and for encouraging me to keep going.

Katelin Morrison (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) During my practicum in the Interpreter Preparation Program at CCBC, I worked as a freelance interpreter with five agencies, focusing on community and educational settings. I now primarily work for Sorenson and have been there for the past two months. I’m currently preparing to take the CASLI written exam, with the goal of becoming NIC certified. I hope to eventually move into medical interpreting, while continuing to grow as a well-rounded interpreter and staying connected with the Deaf community through meaningful, culturally aware work.

James Paidoussis (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) James is currently a freelance interpreter in New York City. He has a special interest in theater and platform interpreting. He is pursuing his national certification.

Jenna Proctor (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) CCBC gave me a strong foundation as a novice interpreter, teaching me how to grow professionally, navigate the field, and advocate for myself. I’m especially grateful to Ricky Perry, who sparked my love for ASL 5 years ago. As well as Stephan Kennedy for his support as an advisor during my time as ASL Club President, and for challenging me as I transitioned into the interpreting program. And to Dave Coyne, thank you for the blood, sweat, and tears your class demanded; I didn’t appreciate it then, but I can still recognize the growth I gained from it. Finally, to Sophia, Raeanne, and Kate—thank you for being the friends I didn’t know I needed, never expected to find, and hope to never lose. I truly wouldn’t be here without you. I currently freelance with Ivy Brothers Interpreting in southern Virginia, where I’ve felt a strong sense of belonging from Ivy herself and the whole IBI family since joining last spring. I’ve had the opportunity to interpret in a range of settings, including K–12 and post-secondary, assignments within the U.S. Navy, and ODU’s commencement ceremony. As I prepare for the VQAS performance and CASLI written exams, I’m also looking to grow by exploring new interpreting settings and partnering with additional agencies to further develop my skills and versatility. My overarching goal is to continue growing to become the best skilled, trusted and well-rounded interpreter I can be!

Sophia Satre (Interpreter Preparation A.A.S.) I’m currently getting ready for my last summer at Deaf Camp where I’ll get to see many familiar faces! The people I’ve met through camp left such a mark on my heart. Real life experiences, stories, and advice that could no way be conveyed in one paragraph but definitely is a part of the interpreter I am today. I’m looking forward to starting an interpreting internship in August to dive into the interpreting world. My biggest goal is to build my confidence as I start interpreting in a variety of settings.
