Audition for the CCBC Dance Company and for the Associate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.) in Fine and Performing Arts: Dance
To be admitted to the AFA program you must be selected through an audition process. If you are not selected at this time you may audition again next semester.
Information about the CCBC Dance Company
As a member of the CCBC Dance Company you represent the dance program and the college. It is expected that you will act accordingly. CCBC Dance Company is the performance aspect of the academic Dance Program. Once you are accepted into the company you are required to remain with the company at least one academic semester (Fall and/or Spring semester).
If accepted into the company, you are required to register for DANC 240 — Dance Workshop. This course meets on Friday 11:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.. You must also be registered for at least one Ballet or Modern DANC technique course at CCBC. This does involve paying the cost of tuition and fees for these semester hours. Failure to register for these courses will result in dismissal from the company.
- As a member of the company you are expected to attend all rehearsals, performances and functions of the company, failure to do so will result in your removal from the company and failing Dance Workshop. Important Dates: CCBC Dance Concert will be virtual this semester due to the pandemic. Currently we are scheduled for filming in the Essex Campus Theater during the first two weeks of November and/or other times during the months of September and October at other locations on campus. A tech schedule will be given later. Attendance during these filming sessions is mandatory; please plan now to be at these rehearsals and “performances”
- Please refer to the course syllabus for complete details regarding the policies and procedures of CCBC Dance Company. Company members are cast into pieces according to the needs of the choreographer. Cast selection is at the discretion of the choreographers and made based on the needs of the work and individual ability/availability.
- In addition, any images taken during the audition, rehearsals and performances of the CCBC Dance Company may be used at the discretion of CCBC for archival purposes, documentation and/or publicity, exclusively for CCBC.
Audition Procedures
- You must complete the online audition form found here before you will receive your audition time slot. The deadline for submitting the form is Friday Sept 4th at 10 a.m. To complete this form, you need to know when you are available to rehearse on the Essex campus and/or online. Most rehearsals are from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday or Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.
- Learn the movement phrases from the video and be prepared to perform them at the audition along with a short improvisational experience. If you cannot access the video contact Melinda Blomquist at mblomquist@ccbcmd.edu for assistance.
- Once your audition form is reviewed you will receive an email with your audition time slot. You can arrive 30 minutes prior to this time to warm yourself up. Please review the CCBC Dance Program Studio Procedures video to know how to navigate the Wellness Building and the procedures for the Dance Studio spaces.
- Arrive no later than 30 minutes before your assigned audition time slot. For Example: My audition time is from 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m., so I will need to arrive by 11:45 a.m. to check in and do my own warm up.
- A face mask that covers the nose and mouth is required at all times during the audition process. No neck gaiter/handkerchief/or masks with valves. The locker rooms are not available for changing, so plan to arrive in your dance attire with appropriate street wear cover up. No street shoes in the dance studios – non-slip socks or dance shoes must be worn in the dance studios at all times.
This will be a great semester of dance and I am looking forward to working with you.
Thank you!!
